Wilson refusing to rush Rio decision

OLYMPIC double trap champion Peter Wilson admits he is still weighing up his options after a whirlwind year before he can fully commit to another four-year Olympic cycle ahead of Rio 2016.

The sport shooter, who took gold this summer at London 2012, admits he is still struggling to get to grips with his achievement.

And after taking time off from his sport after the summer, the 26-year-old admits he is looking forward to picking up his gun again despite his uncertainty over 2016.

"I'm taking every month as it comes. I'm going to train in Dubai as normal during February and begin the process for Rio," he said.

"It's a long way off and I still haven't 100 per cent committed to it yet.

"I'm a single event competitor, and so I get a crack only once every four years. I never thought I'd win at my first attempt, it's mind-boggling.

"Until I've got my head around it, I can't make any decisions about anything."

Speaking at the BT British Olympic Ball in London, Wilson revealed he has several options on the table including offers in television.

But with fierce competition in his sport, the double trap world record holder knows the level of commitment needed to succeed at the highest level.

"I've got a few random bits and pieces offered to me, opportunities within TV," he added.

"Who knows what the future holds. I'm still young, so I've got a very good chance to retain my title.

"There are a lot of things bubbling away and if I can juggle it and keep all the balls in the air at once then that's what I'll do."

"I think I need to fully commit as you need to get the best out of yourself to compete against some of the best shooters in the world.

"In London I was competing against the best guys in the world, some phenomenal talent so I couldn't go into the next four years half-heartedly, it has to be full steam ahead or not at all."
