SCOTTISH skip Tom Brewster secured two big wins to keep his rink at the right end of the standings at the World Curling Championships in Basel.

Last year's silver medallist was looking to rebound from a disappointing defeat to Denmark and started with a comfortable 8-3 win over Germany.

And he followed that up with a 7-4 victory over hosts Switzerland, meaning Scotland have won five from six games, with Canada the only unbeaten side in the 12-team round-robin tournament.

"That was a lot better," said Brewster, after the win over Germany.

"I thought we won that quite well and played well, we've been pretty solid in all our games except for two ends."

After beating Swiss skip Jan Hauser, Brewster, whose rink includes Greg Drummond, Scott Andrews and Michael Goodfellow added:

"We deserved to win the game but maybe not in that style. My last didn't curl enough, and he had a shot for the game and missed it.

"You need to be on your mettle for every game here, one mistake and you lose, but we're in a great place now after six matches."
