MORE GOLD: Peter Wilson calls for competitors after charging to Olympic gold in London 2012
The double trap ace fired his way to victory at Royal Artillery Barracks, holding his nerve in the last round to stay at the top of the pile.
In his debut Games, the world record holder saw off the challenge of Sweden's Hakan Dahlby and Russian Vasily Mosin who claimed silver and bronze respectively.
Now he plans on sticking around in the sport, and is urging others to follow suit.
"I came into this wanting a gold medal, it was a dream and I got it," said the 25-year-old.
"Now I want another gold medal and I plan on sticking around for a good while yet.
"I hope I have spurred on a real resurgence for competitive shooting.
"I would challenge anyone to take up the sport. I'm planning on being in it for a number of years.
"People should take up an Olympic discipline, give it a go and a run for its money."
