Q&A with....Lynn McCafferty
BRITAIN'S women handball team made history in September by reaching the European Championships qualifying group stage for the first time
ON THE RISE: Britain's women's handball team are breaching unknown territory having reached European Championship qualifying for the first time
And with the best women's handballers set to battle it out at the World Championships in China which starts on Saturday, GB captain Lynn McCaffertey talks Sportsbeat's Nick Clowes through Britain's ambitions.
Q - Handball is not exactly a mainstream sport. When did you first play handball?
A - I first played handball when I was ten at my local sports centre where there was and still is a club.
Q - Handball is very popular on the continent but less so in England. Why do you feel this is and what do you think can be done to change this?
A - Handball isn't a mainstream sport in schools and there are not the facilities or ease of access to facilities. Where I have been in Denmark, Norway and Italy, kids in school play handball as part of their curriculum. They have easy access to a full size hall and it doesn't cost the earth.
Things will only change when schools will teach them as part of the curriculum and sports facilities are for the community and not for profit. Also there needs to be more proper full size courts in the UK.
Q - There has been a lot said about the funding issue surrounding handball. How hard has it been for you on a personal level?
A - It has been very hard since I first left Scotland in 2006 but it became even harder in January this year. So hard that I had to consider leaving and going home. My husband and parents fund me 100% and without them I would not be able to continue. I also have very good friends who help me out when they can.
The funding issue doesn't allow us as athletes to focus on what we need to be doing to be improving. Of course, this causes delays in our progress and the development of the squad.
However, it also made me even more determined to make it, as my loved ones are investing in me.
Q - But despite all this there will be a GB handball team at the Olympics in London 2012 for the first time. You must be very excited?
A - Yes, of course. It is truly unbelievable. I really hope to be part of the squad that makes it but it is just having a handball team representing Great Britain at 2012 that should make a huge impact on handball in the UK. The journey so far has had so many ups and downs. I look forward to what the rest of the adventure toward the Olympics brings.

Handball
Hey, have you ever known someone who plays handball a lot? They all have extremely callused hands. I know one thing, never get slapped by a woman who plays handball. I would hurt, LOL.

“Independent scientists
“Independent scientists who have no stake in the models will run them. For the first time, we can have objective tests, though it may take five to ten years before we see any results." It is above board that human knowledge is limited to predict earthquakes objectively before it occurs. Let us fall back upon the scriptures as Mar 13:8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows. It's impressive how much
It's impressive how much players in non-handball countries sacrifice in order to play - coming from a handballcountry (denmark)that loves handball and where the female athletes are all proffesional and are paid quite a high salary while the best NT players names are common knowledge in the public, this kind of love for the game impresses me alot. This is what made me love handball back in the 90-ties when the danish female NT won everyone's hearts with their love for handball and caused the explosion of professionalism and salaries in the league. The new young danish NT are showing alot of the same love, so I hope to see a Denmark-Great Britain match in 2012 - that would be great!Nice job getting into the qualifications and I look forward to seeing you play sometime:-)
