West Yorkshire Youth Games take centre stage during Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week
LEEDS youngsters nailed their colours to the mast on Wednesday as they took on the best of West Yorkshire, all in the name of Lloyds TSB National School Sports Week.
FUTURE STARS: Leeds were among the competitors at the West Yorkshire Youth Games as part of Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week
The West Yorkshire Youth Games rolled into Leeds Met University with 1000 secondary school children taking part in a wide range of sports ranging from athletics to boccia.
Seperated into five camps, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield, the youngsters not only did their best for their area but also learnt key Olympic and Paralympic values along the way.
Tracey Pottage, a teacher assistant at Blackgates Primary School, was proud to help Leeds leave its mark on the competition.
"This whole event has been brilliant and we have team down here doing gymnastics and they came first which was great," she said.
"All the kids involved had a brilliant time and it was great to see them enjoy themselves while also winning.
"This is our third or fourth year at this event and we always look forward to it both the teachers and the children."
Sam Dunkley, a pupil from Blackgates Primary School, was one of the kids taking part in Britain's biggest school sport event.
And the 11-year-old admitted the experience would live long in his memory after strutting his stuff for Leeds.
"I do quite a bit of gymnastics at my school and it is a really great feeling to win and I am really pleased we have," he said.
"It is great to win here because this is the last year I can do this event and it is brilliant to leave on a high."
