GREAT Britain’s Frankie Jones hoped she didn’t let anyone down after her London 2012 rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around campaign came to a disappointing end.
APOLOGETIC: Six-time British champion Frankie Jones felt like she had let people down
The six-time British champion finished 24th out of 24 over the two days of the qualification process after a mistake in her club routine blew her chances of securing Team GB’s highest ever Olympic placing.
And the 21-year-old expressed her disappointment at failing to secure one of the ten final spots and says she’s unhappy for her below-par showing.
“At the moment I’m just so sorry to have let everyone down with my last routine,” she said. “The support has been beyond my imagination and to not quite do it for them is devastating for me.”
Jones, who has won four consecutive national titles, finished the first day of the competition in 21st place after scoring 24.200 with the hoop and 24.550 with the ball.
After her ribbon routine scored 23.900, Jones looked set to secure an impressive finish, but one club fell off the floor in her final routine and she was awarded just 21.975 to end the competition on a sour note.
But she was full of praise for the support she received as her every move was roared on by the enthusiastic Wembley Arena crowd.
“I tried my best and I’m so grateful to be here. The support has just been phenomenal. The support of everybody has been amazing,” she said.
“I couldn’t have imagined so much support from everybody. The whole spirit of Team GB has been amazing.”
