Australian athlete Regan Hollioake enjoyed a spectacular day at the Ironman New Zealand, showcasing a commanding performance in the marathon segment that secured her victory with a time of 8:51:30. Trailing them was Jocelyn McCauley, who emerged in third at 2:18 behind, closely followed by Hollioake, Gabrielle Lumkes, and Nina Derron in a tightly-knit group.

The Swiss competitor forged ahead, only for McCauley to swiftly turn the tide and take the lead, reducing her deficit to a commendable 14 seconds within the first 30km. This bold move demonstrated McCauley’s determination, as she continued to extend her lead to around a minute, with Hollioake, Derron, and Siffert in close pursuit.

However, McCauley soon found herself on a solitary ride, her lead growing significantly as she approached the transition zone. By the time she reached T2, she had amassed a comfortable lead of 5:41 minutes over Derron and Hollioake, who were riding neck and neck. Meanwhile, Lumkes languished almost 19 minutes behind the leaders, illustrating the fierce competition of the day.

After approximately 12 kilometres, it was Derron who surged to take the lead, closely followed by McCauley, while Hollioake trailed at a minute and a half behind.

McCauley managed to fend off the persistent challenge from Derron, securing her place as the runner-up with a time of 8:56:52. Derron, not far behind, clinched third place, finishing at 8:57:48.
