The Xterra World Cup is gearing up for an exhilarating third season in 2025, boasting an expanded eight-stop, 11-race circuit designed to showcase the best off-road triathletes on the planet. As athletes prepare to dive into this rigorous competition, excitement builds for what promises to be an unforgettable year of endurance and sporting prowess.

This year’s series introduces two exciting new venues—Dunsborough in Australia and Weston Park in the UK—injecting fresh energy into the competition. However, in a strategic move, the 2025 Xterra World Championship has been decoupled from the series standings, allowing both contests to flourish independently.

A New Competitive Landscape

The Xterra World Cup crowns the best across the series, while the World Championship determines the best on the day,” explained J-D Cousens, Vice President of Operations and Marketing at Xterra. This clear distinction ensures that each title receives the dedicated focus it deserves, allowing athletes to vie for two different crowns, each with its unique demands and pressures.

The format of the 2025 Xterra World Cup will see athletes compete in seven Full Distance races and four Short Track events. Competitors will earn points at every race stop, culminating in a thrilling final Short Track triathlon livestreamed from Trentino, Italy. This event will precede the 2025 World Championship, ensuring all eyes are on the athletes as they battle for supremacy.

Points will be allocated based on placement, with 100 points awarded for Full Distance winners and 75 points for Short Track victors. This makes every race crucial, as consistency across the evolving formats becomes essential for any athlete aspiring to conquer the series title. Particularly with the competitive landscape continually shifting, this year presents not only seasoned champions but also a surge of emerging talent eager to stamp their authority on the sport.

Reigning champions Felix Forissier and Solenne Billouin, both from France, will defend their titles against a formidable field of challengers. The determination and grit exhibited by these elite athletes echo the spirit seen in the Paralympic Games, where competitors push the boundaries of human potential. As with those splendid Olympic moments, a question arises: who among the newcomers will rise to the occasion and challenge the status quo?

Full Schedule of the 2025 Xterra World Cup

Fans of this dynamic sport will be delighted by an action-packed calendar, crammed with thrilling contests across the globe. The following schedule outlines the events:

  • **March 27 & 29** – Dunsborough, Australia (Short Track & Full Distance)
  • **April 26** – Vouliagmeni, Greece (Full Distance)
  • **May 3** – Weston Park, UK (Full Distance)
  • **May 17 & 18** – Oak Mountain, USA (Full Distance & Short Track)
  • **July 12** – Quebec, Canada (Full Distance)
  • **August 9 & 10** – Prachatice, Czech Republic (Full Distance & Short Track)
  • **August 16** – Zittau, Germany (Full Distance, European Championship)
  • **September 25** – Trentino, Italy (Short Track, World Cup Finale)

As both the Full Distance and Short Track formats demand different strengths, athletes must adapt their strategies accordingly. The Full Distance events challenge competitors with longer courses that test stamina and resilience, whereas the Short Track races, typically featuring intense bursts of speed in a compact format, require explosive power and quick tactical decisions.

Moreover, the palpable energy of the crowd often serves as a catalyst—just as witnessed in iconic Paralympic moments. The roar from spectators can invigorate athletes to elevate their performance to staggering new heights, forging unforgettable narratives of triumph against adversity.

It is within this melting pot of tradition, competition, and raw determination that the true spirit of the Xterra World Cup thrives. As we look to the races ahead, every participant, from seasoned veterans to spirited newcomers, carries a dream: the aspiration to rise above the waves of challenge and etch their names into the annals of sporting history.
