SHOOTER Jennifer McIntosh says she will take plenty from her London 2012 Olympics experience, despite failing to qualify for the women’s 50 metre rifle three positions.

The 21-year-old Scot, who is the youngest member of Britain’s shooting team, scored 570 from a possible 600 points in the event where competitors shoot prone, kneeling and standing.

But that was not enough to qualify at the Royal Artillery Barracks and she finished 42nd out of 46 shooters to start.

“Conditions were not too good. But I should be experienced enough to handle it,” McIntosh said.

“It’s been a really great time. Peter Wilson’s medal was phenomenal. It was fantastic news – I am so proud of him.

“There’s a lot we can take away from this and we can hold our heads high.”

Teammate Charlotte Kerwood also failed to qualify for the women’s trap shooting final after finishing 16th.

A disappointing second round score of 19 out of 25 meant she eventually finished with a three-round total of 64 out of 75.

And Kerwood admitted she allowed her mind to wander rather than focus on the job in hand.

“Nothing really put me off. I just don’t think I was really focused on each target,” she said.

“I was in the future rather than staying in the present. I was thinking of the end result rather than one clay at a time.

“I realised that so in the last round I put that right and shot a bit better.”

And while she failed to emulate teammate Peter Wilson’s success, Kerwood said the experience of watching him was her highlight of London 2012.

“Seeing Peter win the gold was incredible. I’m really, really pleased for him and hopefully I’ll be doing that in Rio and everyone’s going to be cheering me up on the podium,” she added.
